CROSS COUNTRY RUNNERS HEAD TO MINNESOTA

JCA_IMG 163_webEach cross-country season, members of the JCA boys and girls teams travel to an out-of-state National Federation of High School’s sanctioned meet. These meets are approved by the Illinois High School Association (IHSA).

In the past, JCA has participated in meets held in: Savannah, GA; Washington, D.C.; Dayton, OH; and Raleigh, NC. This year the team is headed to Minneapolis, MN, accompanied by head coaches, Mark Clarke and Meghan Prohaska.

On trips where the team has flown, 14 runners participate. Since this year’s trip is a road trip, 24 runners (half of the total team) will attend. The runners that participate are generally JCA’s top-ranked runners and upperclassmen. Six adult chaperones will travel with the team.

The race, which will be held at the University of Minnesota (Twin Cities), is called the “Griak’ – named after legendary University of Minnesota cross-country coach, Roy Griak.

There are several levels of college and high school races. Angels and Hillmen will run in the large school ‘gold’ division on Saturday, September 28, 2013. There are 225 schools participating.

The trip itinerary includes a tour of the University of Minnesota campus and a visit to the “Mall of America” on Friday, September 27th.

JCA’s team fund-raised in an effort to help defray the cost of the trip. The JCA Cross Country Boosters coordinated the planning of the trip and the team’s fund-raising efforts.
