HERITAGE WEEK: THURSDAY, OCT. 3

SOSF Logo May 2011Today, we celebrate the charisms of generosity and hospitality. The second sentence in the Carmelite Rule of Life stipulates that the prior’s room should be placed near the entrance to the house so that he may be able to welcome visitors. All are to be received as if they are Christ. Franciscans, too, have always stressed the charism of hospitality; to serve and welcome others, especially the stranger, in the name of Jesus. As the apostles came to know the risen Christ on the road to Emmaus in the breaking of the bread, it is through food – cultivated, well-prepared, and generously offered – that Christ is to be know in Franciscan hospitality.

276834_171624649367_7599757_n Today we pray: Gracious God, you who so generously lavish our lives with goodness, create in us a deep center of gratitude. Give us generous and welcoming hearts. Help us to give without counting the cost and to share without expecting something in return. Help us to see you in the people we meet and may we serve and welcome others as though we are serving and welcoming you. Amen.

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, pray for us!

St. Francis of Assisi, pray for us!
