Girls Volleyball captured the Sectional Championship on Thursday evening with a win over Blooming Central Catholic. The Angels advance to the Supersectional match scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. in LaSalle-Peru.

Behind a double-double from Mary Murphy and an all-Angels-on-board attack that produced 31 kills, JCA swept past Bloomington Central Catholic 25-19, 25-18 in the championship match of the Class 3A Prairie Central Sectional. Murphy had 10 kills and 10 assists, while Madeline Grimm added 7 kills and Maddie Naal notched 5 kills and 4 block kills. Nicole Witmer also had 5 kills and Taylor Zurliene nailed 2 of her 3 kills during crunchtime in Game 2. Megan Melone totaled 18 assists. Defensively, Megan Cladis (12 digs), Mallory Krzysciak (10 digs) and Meghan Harrison (8-for-8 in perfect passes) paced the Angels (23-16).

It was the 11th sectional title in program history and the eighth in the past 12 years under Angels coach Christine Scheibe. “I’m very proud of the way the girls played,” Scheibe said. “I liked seeing the production out of so many of our hitters and our back-row players. That is what makes us a great team.”

The Angels, who are 14-4 in their past 18 matches, play again on Saturday night at 6 p.m. in the LaSalle-Peru Supersectional against Sterling (28-10). JCA is 9-1 in supersectional competition, including 6-1 under Coach Scheibe.
