The Joliet Catholic tally: 11 sign in football, 1 in soccer (Joliet Herald News)

JOLIET – Saint Xavier football coach Mike Feminis marveled at the size of the crowd.

“I’ve been coming to these for years, and I have never seen a crowd like this,” he said.

The national letter-of-intent signing at Joliet Catholic Academy on Wednesday afternoon indeed was one for the record books. Eleven football players and a soccer player were feted, and well wishers abounded.

Dan Sharp, JCA’s athletic director and football coach, recognized the parents of the athletes, but he missed one. Running back Michael Johnson mentioned the omission of his mom and dad.

“I was blinded by your suit, Mike,” Sharp quipped.

Later, when it came time to discuss Johnson, who will play at NCAA Division II Missouri Southern State, Sharp said, “I’m glad my suit fits you.”
