Weekend athletics update, girls soccer captures Rosary Invite in thrilling fashion

Soccer Rosary Tourney

This past weekend proved successful for Joliet Catholic Academy athletics. Here’s a complete run down of our spring sports:

Girls Soccer

The JCA varsity girls soccer program won the Rosary Tournament Invitational this past weekend, winning all five games during Saturday’s marathon tournament. The Angels started off with 3-0 with wins over Harlem (3-2), IMSA (4-0), and Aurora Central Catholic (3-0) in pool play. In the semifinal, the Angels won 3-2 in penalty kicks over Mohomet-Seymour. JCA captured the championship with a 2-0 victory over Harlem once again in the finals. Senior Andriana Acosta led the way with seven goals on the day, followed by Kelsey Builta with three. Emma Ehrsam, Mandy Gruber, and Mariah Rodriguez added one goal a piece.

Softball

With Alyssa Callans tossing a four-hit shutout and driving in three runs to join Reilly Jo Swanson, Paige Callans and Jen Krizka with two hits apiece at the top of the lineup, JCA used a 12-hit attack to help it grab a quick lead in its 6-0 nonconference victory over Romeoville on Friday.

On Saturday, the Angels were victorious over Bolingbrook, 5-1 in non-conference action. Sara Chamberlin had a three-run triple to lead JCA.

Baseball

JCA bats back Drake Fellows, George Manikas in doubleheader sweep of Carmel Mundelein.

All JCA (6-5, 2-0) did Saturday was rattle 27 hits around the yard in a 10-7, 13-3 sweep, while Carmel (5-3, 0-2), which had beaten a couple of name programs recently, boarded the bus and began the regrouping process.

Boys Tennis

On Friday night the JCA boys tennis team captured a 7-0 victory over Plainfield South. The junior varsity won 6-1.
