JCA announces May Students of the Month

Joliet Catholic Academy President/Principal Dr. Jeffrey Budz is proud to announce the May Students of the Month: Sydnie Weis (Kiwanis Club), Lauren Crudo (Rotary Club), and Raymond Hernandez (Lions Club). JCA is proud of the success these students have exhibited both in the classroom and out in the community.

Sydnie Weis

Sydnie Weis, daughter of Dwayne and Jalayne Weis, currently holds a 4.60 GPA. Weis is a member of National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta (Math National Honor Society). She was also recently named an Illinois State Scholar, and a “Top 25 Student” at JCA at the Joliet Chamber of Commerce’s annual Top Student Recognition Banquet. In addition, Weis is a member of the JCA varsity cheerleading program, JCA varsity softball program. She also serves as president of the Medical Science Club at JCA, and is a member of Student Council. She helped the Math team to a second-place finish at regionals this year, and has earned “A” honor roll each of her eight semesters in high school. Weis has been accepted to Loyola University in Chicago, where she plans on studying Biology with an emphasis on their Pre-Dental track.

Lauren Crudo

Lauren Crudo, daughter of Mark and Diana Crudo, currently holds a 4.66 GPA in honors and advance placement classes at JCA. Crudo is a member of National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society (where she serves as vice president), and the JCA Honors Program. She was also recently named an Illinois State Scholar. Crudo also serves as a member of JCA’s Key Club, Leo Club, Habitat for Humanity, Student Council, JCA Student Ambassadors, Vocal Ensemble, Math Team, Scholastic Bowl, and Eucharistic Ministers. She is the Executive Board vice president of Student Council, and also served as a team captain in JCA’s varsity cross-country and track programs. Outside of school, Crudo is actively involved in Operation Welcome You Home. She has been accepted into Marquette University, where she will study Clinical Laboratory Sciences with the goal of becoming a doctor.

Ray Hernandez

Raymond Hernandez, son of Raymond and Katherine Hernandez, currently holds a 3.4 GPA. Hernandez served as a team captain of the JCA football team, is a member of Key Club, and also served as a leader on JCA’s annual Kairos retreat, a capstone retreat for juniors and seniors. This summer, Hernandez plans on enlisting in the National Guard, and will continue his collegiate studies at Joliet Junior College, with plans on attending Western Illinois University. Hernandez ultimately will pursue a career in law enforcement, with an intended major of Criminal Justice and a minor in Psychology.
