Get ready for Respect Life Week at JCA

Pultorak a Rising Star; vote for Monahan; Senior Night for sports

JOLIET – Respect Life Club moderator Jeremy Hylka of Joliet Catholic Academy has a busy week planned.

A scripture and theology instructor at the college preparatory coeducational high school, Hylka has announced the itinerary for JCA’s “Respect Life Week,” which will run from April 30 through May 4.

Thousands of pink and blue flags will be placed in front of JCA to support the Pro-Life movement.

On Monday, April 30, a Pro-Life Rosary will be recited at 2:45 p.m. in the chapel. Tuesday features a silent day of solidarity, with red duct tape saying “Life” on their mouths. Wednesday has been dubbed Pro-Life T-shirt day, and a Chaplet of the Divine Mercy will be prayed at 7:25 a.m. in Room 219.

After school on Thursday at 3 p.m., a 20-minute prayer service for life will be held outside by the flags and banners. A baby shower will be held on Friday, with donations of any new items for babies (clothes, toys, etc.) to be dropped off in Room 219. These then will be given to the Birthright of Joliet Center.

GET OUT THE VOTE: Angie Monahan, the mother of JCA student Grant LaRussa, has a small request. The family is asking for the JCA community’s support by voting online to help Monahan win a handicap accessible van. The National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association is conducting a countrywide contest to promote awareness of people with disabilities living full, productive and inspiring lives. NMEDA is giving away three vans to entrants in the top 10 percent of vote-getters. Voting continues until May 13. You can vote once every 24-hour period. Monahan’s direct voting page is http://www.nmeda.com/mobility-awareness-month/heroes/indiana/walkerton/476/angie-monahan. Use a different promo code each day and gain five free votes. The promo codes are 742, 957, 988, 787, 1041, 847, 855, 849, 848, 889, 911, 985, 975 and 965. Currently, Monahan is 22nd out of 800 entrants. So, please pass this information along to your friends on Facebook, Twitter and via email.

RISING STAR: JCA sophomore Nate Pultorak, who plays the dulcimer, will be performing at the Rising Star Showcase on Sunday, April 29 at 4:30 p.m. at the Prairie State College Auditorium in Chicago Heights. Tickets are $10, with all proceeds benefitting the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra.
