Joliet Catholic Academy is proud to announce its January Students of the month; Amy Koncar (Kiwanis Club of Joliet), Courtney Norgren (Rotary Club of Joliet), and Craig Slowik (Joliet Noon Lions Club).

Amy is the daughter of Raymond and Annette Koncar. Amy has been a member of the Joliet Catholic Academy Honors program all seven semesters and is an Illinois State Scholar. She is a member of the National Honors Society, National Spanish Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, National Math Honor Society, and Who’s Who Among Honor Students. Amy has been on the Math Team all four years, competing and placing in local, regional, and state competitions. Amy has been the Student Council Homeroom Representative all four years, President of Key Club, Vice President of Mu Alpha Theta, a JCA Ambassador all four years, and has been on the JCA Basketball team for two years along with the JCA Softball team for 3 years. Amy has also received Individual Subject Awards for Psychology, Pre-Calculus, Religion, Music Theory, and Honors Geometry. Outside of school, Amy has been a Miracle League Baseball buddy for two years, and a Lector and Eucharistic Minister for St. Joseph Parish in Joliet. Amy’s post high school plans involve earning a degree in the fields of an Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology or Music Therapy, and attend either Xavier University in Cincinnati, Fontbonne University in St. Louis, University of Dayton, or Marquette University.

Courtney is the daughter of Leslie and Gary Norgren. She holds a 3.59 GPA on a 4.0 scale. Courtney is a member of the National Honors Society, Mu Alpha Theta, the Spanish National Honor Society, and is an Illinois State Scholar. She also belongs to WJCA and is a member of Hillzone; she volunteers at Lakewood Nursing Home, Feed My Starving Children, and the Glass Slipper Project. Courtney also received a special recognition as U.S. Student Ambassador for People to People. Keeping busy outside of school, Courtney is a member of Team USA Synchronized Figure Skating; she has received two National Gold Medals competing in Switzerland. She will be competing in the Spring Cup in Milan, Italy this February. After high school, Courtney plans to attend either the University of Illinois or Boston University for Pre-Med as a Biology Major to become either a Doctor or an Orthopedic Surgeon.

Craig is the son of Michele and Craig Slowik. Craig carries a GPA of 3.55 on a 4.0 scale with his favorite subject being statistics. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. Craig has played football at JCA all four years, was a team member of the baseball team his freshman and sophomore years, and a member of the Basketball team his freshman year. Craig is the president of Varsity Club, a sports broadcaster for WJCA and a member of the Handbells Club. Craig has been recognized as an ESCC All Conference Player and the 2nd all-time passer in JCA History. After high school, Craig plans to attend college and will declare a major of Business Management.
