There was more at stake than just local bragging rights when the boys volleyball teams from Joliet Catholic Academy and Joliet West met Wednesday.
With both entered in a rugged Minooka Regional that figures to be just as competitive as last year’s field at West, any head-to-head win is critical.
In a nonconference clash of once-beaten teams at JCA, the Hilltoppers got the upper hand in both sets and kept the Tigers from staging any late comebacks as they captured a 25-21, 25-19 victory.
Both sides had been unbeaten since falling to unbeaten Lincoln-Way West in the Tigers’ tournament on the first weekend of the season. Beside its most recent win, JCA (10-1) also owns a come-from-behind win over Lockport and two victories over Plainfield South among regional teams.
