The Hillmen and Angels cross country programs traveled to the Spartan Invitational, the largest cross country meet in Michigan, to compete on a 5k course on the Michigan State University golf course over this past weekend. Top runners for the Hillmen included Marcus Porchia (freshman), Fabian Damian (sophomore), and Tyler Kuchar Hinthorn (junior). Top runners for the Angels included Kelly Testin (senior), Shannon Quinn (senior), Grace Bannon (sophomore), and Isabella Miller (freshman).

While in East Lansing, the team was able to tour Michigan State University, meet the mascot Sparty, and see the famous Spartan statue. The team also ran into Robert Winkler, a 1954 JCHS alum who was a member of the inaugural cross county program at JCHS and a state qualifier. Winkler went on to graduate from Michigan State, currently resides in Michigan, and took photos with our current runners and is looking forward to future class reunions with his fellow graduates.

On Tuesday, JCA cross country clocked some fast times at the ESCC South meet. Grace Bannon (sophomore) cracked the top 5 while Isabella Miller (freshman) and Audrey Hammel (freshman) finished in the top 20 of the frosh/soph girls race. Kelly Testin (senior) and Shannon Quinn (senior) ran in the top 10 for the varsity girls race.

Fabian Damian (sophomore) and Marcus Porchia (freshman) ran in the top 20 of the boys frosh/soph race and also set personal records on the day. The varsity Hillmen were led by Tyler Kuchar Hinthorn (junior) and Zach Corcoran (senior) both placing in the top 25. Jason Kapushman (junior) and Julian Smith (junior) completed the scoring for the Hillmen by powering through the finish line to set personal records. Next up for the team is the Tinley Park Invite on Saturday.
