JCA school leaders attend Carmelite Secondary School Commision in Lima, Perú

Carmelite prior provincial Rev. William Harry, O.Carm. and Carmelite high school leaders from Salpointe, Crespi, Carmel Mundelein, Mount Carmel, and Joliet Catholic Academy.

This week the Carmelites Secondary Schools Commission is meeting in Perú. The day began with an assembly with the student body at Carmelitas in Miraflores. The representatives from the schools then visited various classrooms in the Kindergarten and the Pre-Kinder part of Carmelitas. The first sessions today focused on the schools’ various responses to the papal document Laudato Si on caring for the earth as our common home. This afternoon was a discussion of how each of the schools lives out the Carmelite values across the curriculum and in the various parts of the school community.

Tomorrow the group will spend the day at a Carmelite parish school in Barranco. On Wednesday, the Catholic high school leaders will be at Colegio Nuestro Salvador in José Galvez. They will also be meeting the young men at San José, the drug treatment program sponsored by the Carmelites in José Galvez. The group is made up of various members of the staffs from Joliet Catholic Academy (president/principal Dr. Jeffrey Budz and vice principal Mr. Bill Pender), Salpointe Catholic, Mt Carmel, Crespi Catholic, Carmel Mundelein and the three schools in Perú.
