Joliet Catholic Academy Athletics to Resume On-Campus Workouts

UPDATE:

The following update was provided on Thursday, July 9 by IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson:

  • We have received confirmation through ISBE that the Governor’s office has approved the following: Students participating in physical activity outside while social distancing are NOT required to wear a mask.
  • The changes to the Phase 4 guidance are to be implemented as soon as possible. The “approval” of these changes is a formality as we have been directed by IDPH to implement these changes.
  • The changes will eliminate scrimmages in sports that require physical contact. (Basketball, Football, Lacrosse, Soccer, Volleyball, Water Polo and Wrestling)

Again, the guidance is fluid and based on the directives of IDPH and the Governor’s office.

IHSA & IDPH Announce Phase 4 Return To Play Guidelines For IHSA Teams That May Begin July 5

Summer Activity Information

Joliet Catholic Academy plans to host summer activity for all returning students and incoming freshmen from July 6, 2020 through August 7, 2020. As of 7/2 all JCA Grade School/Youth Camps are still cancelled. All summer activity at JCA will be subject to IHSA Stage 2 guidelines draft (when approved). During Stage 2, coaches will assign registered student-athletes to groups of 50 or fewer on a “first-registered, first-served” basis. If the Stage 2 guidelines are not approved by Monday, July 6, select JCA sports will resume conditioning activities under IHSA Stage 1 protocols with groups of less than 10.

Student-athletes who participate in multiple sports are only permitted to participate in one sport/camp with priority towards the upcoming fall season sport.

Online registration is required in order to participate in any summer athletic activity at JCA.  Registering for summer activity (camps) in a specific sport qualifies as registration for that sport during the school year.  In other words, if you register for a sport via the links provided, we will be ready for your student at camp this summer and for tryouts during the school year. For help with registering, contact JCA athletic secretary Mrs. Deb Dispenza at 815.741.0500, ext. 270.

This process is a little different than previous years due to COVID-19 and we appreciate your patience as work through this together.

Online Registrations

Click Here to submit the 2020-2021 JCA Athletic Participation, Insurance, Steroid, and Concussion Forms Online. This form must be completed before the start of summer workouts. Concussion baseline testing will occur at a later date before the fall IHSA season.

Click Here to submit the JCA COVID-19 Mandatory Waiver of Liability and Indemnifications. This form is mandatory for all JCA student-athletes participating in a sport or participating in summer workouts.

JCA Summer Sports/Activity Schedule

The JCA summer activity schedule can be found here. Not all sports will be participating in summer workouts/activities. Please note that camp fees (if applicable) must be paid via cash, or check at JCA on the first day of camp.  There is no online payment option for camps.

Some coaches or athletes may choose to continue preparing for their season at home via virtual meetings and personal workouts. Summer activity is never mandatory and participation cannot be held against any coach or student-athlete.

Pick Up/Droff Off Procedures for Athletes:

Parents should wait in the parking lot until their child is “checked in”. Parents are not allowed to stay and observe practice. Please drop off your child and return at pickup time.

Coaches will be taking daily temperature checks and administering the daily IHSA COVID-19 Athlete/Coach Monitoring Form. Parents should familiarize themselves with the six questions on the IHSA COVID-19 Athlete/Coach Monitoring Form. If a temperature is higher than 100.4*F or any of the following questions are answered “YES” the athlete must leave practice immediately and are out for a minimum of two days.

State “Yes” or “No”: Are you currently experiencing…

What Should I Bring?

  • Please bring your own mask, which should be worn at all times when not directly participating in a drill or conditioning.
  • Water – please bring plenty of water because you will not be allowed to refill at school. We recommend individual gallon  jugs. Sharing of water is not allowed.
  • Towel.
  • Hand Sanitizer – for summer workouts each athlete must bring their own bottle of hand sanitizer.
  • Extra change of clothes if you sweat excessively.

Fall Tryout Information

The fall sport season is scheduled to begin on August 10, 2020. The fall tryout schedule for specific sports will be posted shortly. Registration is required in order to participate. Registering for summer activity in a specific sport qualifies as registration for that sport during the school year.

Sports Physicals

Physical exams are required for fall sport participation.  The IHSA physical form can be found here. Participating students must have a physical completed in 2020 on file at JCA before attending tryouts on August 10, 2020. Families can bring the physical form to any doctor to be completed.

Please note that physicals for incoming freshmen count as the necessary sports physical. Incoming freshmen should turn physicals into the JCA Health Office (by entering the main office) from Monday-Thursday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. during summer hours. Returning student physicals should be directed to the JCA Athletic Office, and can also be dropped off at the main office.

We look forward to welcoming student-athletes back on the Joliet Catholic Academy campus.
