JCA celebrates Heritage Week with Service, Retreat, and All-School Mass

Last week, Joliet Catholic Academy celebrated Heritage Week. JCA sets aside the first week of October to celebrate the spirituality of the Joliet Franciscans and the Carmelites in a special way. Every day this week, students and staff participated in a different activity and theme that connects to our founding communities.

Monday was the day of prayer; every period started with special prayers on Franciscan and Carmelite themes.

Tuesday was the day of charity; a collection was taken up in every Theology class. All the proceeds raised went to support Franciscan and Carmelite missions.

Wednesday was the day of hospitality; JCA celebrated with lunch outdoors in Wishing Well Court and Heritage Quad.

Thursday was a day of service and retreat; the freshman, sophomore, and junior classes took part in an on-campus retreat. Seniors spent the day out in the community doing service at the following local non-profit organizations:

Ready Set Ride Stables
Hopeful Trails Shelter
Senior Services
The Willows
Habitat Restore
Multiple Habitat home sites
Easter Seals
Sharefest
Hands of Hope
Forest Preserve
Northern Illinois Foodbank

Friday was the day of celebration; JCA held an all school-Mass to celebrate the end of Heritage Week.

Thank you to Fr. Jeff Smialek, O.Carm. and Mrs. Missy Ferro in Campus Ministry for organizing this incredible week for JCA students and staff members.
