Annemarie Hickey ’10 helps lead Wisconsin Volleyball to NCAA National Championship

Joliet Catholic Academy Girls Volleyball legend Annemarie Hickey ’10 was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in Illinois for the Angels back in 2009. She led the Angels to back-to-back state championships in 2008 and 2009 before embarking on a successful collegiate volleyball career at Wisconsin Volleyball.
 
Hickey has continued her winning ways, serving as an assistant coach/technical coordinator for the Badgers recent NCAA Division I Volleyball National Championship. Wisconsin defeated Nebraska in an epic title game in mid-December 22-25, 31-29, 25-23, 23-25, 15-12. The finished 31-3 on the season and also captured the 2021 Big Ten Championship.
 
Hickey is responsible for scouting breakdown and dissemination of opponent and Wisconsin film exchange using VolleyMetrics. She also creates a video dissemination plan for sending video to players, including the use of online storage portals and student-athlete iPads. Hickey assists the UW coaching staff after each match and practice by creating and disseminating statistical information as well as scouting and breaking down all practice drills using statistical software and video equipment.
 
Hickey was a four-year letter winner for the Badgers from 2010-13. She served as a team tri-captain in 2013, aiding UW to an appearance in the NCAA championship match. Hickey ranks third on Wisconsin’s career record list with 1,849 digs, tying for second with 3.98 digs per set.
 
Hickey graduated from UW in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. She spent the 2014-15 season as the Badgers’ volunteer assistant coach (courtesy of uwbadgers.com).
