JCA Announces November Students of the Month

Joliet Catholic Academy President/Principal Dr. Jeffrey Budz is pleased to announce the November Students of the Month: Aidan Medina (Kiwanis Club), Alivia Schertz (Rotary Club) and Kevin Casey (Lions Club). JCA is proud of the success these students have exhibited in both the classroom and in the community.

Aidan Medina, son of Andrea and Gabriel Medina of Manhattan, is a graduate of St. Mary Immaculate Grade School. Aidan is a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta. He is a College Board Nationally Recognized Hispanic Scholar and University of Illinois School System Salute to Achievement Award recipient as well as a Kazma Scholar, Heritage Award and Franciscan-Carmelite Top Scorer Scholarship recipient. Aidan is the Student Council Executive Board President, Medical Science Club President, and Varsity Soccer Team Captain along with being a Student Ambassador, Eucharistic Minister, and Cal’s Angels Ambassador. Outside of his school responsibilities, Aidan is a McDonald’s Crew Trainer, Top Soccer Buddy, and a player for Chicago Inter Soccer Club. Aidan plans to study biomedical engineering in college and will eventually pursue a medical degree to become an oncologist.

Alivia Schertz, daughter of Aimee and Joseph Schertz of Joliet, is a graduate of St. Raymond Grade School. She is a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta, and has received an academic medal in pottery. Alivia is active in the Student Council where she serves as Executive Board Vice President and Habitat for Humanity where she serves as President, and is a member of Key Club, Student Ambassadors, Euchre Club, and Big Buddies / Little Buddies. Alivia is busy outside of her school duties by working at The Jacob Henry Mansion and at J&B Music Studio where she is a guitar instructor. She also is a leader for Kairos retreats and volunteers as a Miracle League Buddy for children with special needs. Alivia plans to attend Notre Dame University or St. Mary’s College and major in business.

Kevin Casey, son of Nicole Venturella-Casey and Kevin Casey, Sr. of Shorewood, is a graduate of Holy Family Grade School. Kevin is a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta, and is an AP Scholar. Kevin is active in Key Club and Economics Club. He is a member of the Varsity Volleyball and Varsity Soccer teams. In Kevin’s spare time, he is active in the WCA (World Cube Association) and enjoys competitive Rubik’s Cube solving. After high school, Kevin plans to attend the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and plans on majoring in computer science and mechanical engineering. Kevin would like to work for a large tech company like Google in the future.
