The JCA Student Math Experience
- Learn the differences in Deductive and Inductive proofs
- Make a scale model of an object in the school
- Understand the “whys” of math, not just the “how to”
- Learn a variety of techniques to solve equations and inequalities
- Interview a working adult to discover math involved in the “Real World”
- Prepare for standardized test taking by careful approximation and reasoning
- Work with “nomials”- monomials, binomials, trinomials and polynomials
- Variety of learning including fun activities such as the Annual JCA Community Pi Day Celebration
MEET OUR FACULTY
Jeannie Bell, Department Chair holds a Bachelor of Arts in Math with a minor in Spanish from the University of St. Francis. Mrs. Bell received her Certificate in Education (6-12) from the University of St. Francis and was named to Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers.
Jan Brill holds a Bachelor of Arts in Math from the College of St. Francis and Master of Science in Teaching Math from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Mrs. Brill received her Certificate in Education (6-12) from the University of St. Francis.
Frank Golf holds a Bachelor of Arts in Math from Lewis College and a Master of Arts in Math from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. Mr. Golf received his Certificate in Secondary Education from Lewis College. He was nominated for the University of Chicago Outstanding Teacher Award and was named SFA-DLA-JCHS-JCA Alumnus of the Year. Mr. Golf is a member of the JCA Hall of Fame and received a Teacher Recognition Award from the Give Back to Others Foundation.
Claire Stockl holds a Bachelor of Arts in Physics from Knox College, a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Illinois, and a Secondary Certification in Physics along with a Math Endorsement from Lewis University. Mrs. Stockl received her Secondary Education Certification in Physics from Lewis University and is the recipient of Lewis University’s Secondary Education / Tech Shining Star Award.
