JCA announces May Students of the Month

Joliet Catholic Academy President/Principal Dr. Jeffrey Budz is pleased to announce the May Students of the Month: Matthew Van Dyke (Kiwanis Club), Abigayle Buhay (Rotary Club), and Joseph Costa (Lions Club). JCA is proud of the success these students have exhibited both in the classroom and out in the community.

Matthew Van Dyke

Matthew Van Dyke, son of Ronald and Elizabeth Van Dyke, graduated from Joliet Catholic Academy with a 4.43 GPA in JCA Honors and A.P. classes. Van Dyke was named an Illinois State Scholar and is also a member of National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta (Math National Honor Society). He also earned two varsity letters in football and was captain of the JCA Lacrosse Team. Van Dyke will attend Indiana University in the fall, with plans on majoring in Finance with a minor in Marketing in the Kelley School of Business.

Abigayle Buhay

Abigayle Buhay, daughter of Joseph and Laura Buhay, graduated with a 4.40 GPA in the JCA Honors Program. Buhay is a member of National Honor Society, National Art Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and National Spanish Honors Society. She also served as secretary of NHS, Key/Leo Club treasurer, and participated in Respect Life Club, HillZone, Student Ambassadors, Medical Science Club, and Student Council. Buhay was also a member of the varsity dance team which earned a 4th place finish at the IHSA State Championships during her senior year. She is a member of BDA Dance Studio and BDA Dance Company. Buhay will attend the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and plans to major in Biology (Pre-Med).

Joseph Costa

Joseph Costa, son of Frank and Katherine Costa, graduated from JCA with a 3.24 GPA. Costa served as a Student Ambassador, participated in Respect Life Club, and was a member of  the JCA HillZone. He also was a member of the JCA varsity soccer program. Costa attended the Rotary Club of Joliet Youth Leadership Conference and also works with the Right to Life Club outside of school. He plans on attending either the University of St. Francis or Illinois State University, intending to major in business with a minor in public speaking.
