Opening School Letter and At-a-Glance Calendar

Dear JCA Parents and Students,

As summer quickly moves by, we hope you are taking time for rest and relaxation as we anticipate the start of another school year. The information below should be helpful in planning for the coming school year. We are excited and can’t wait to welcome students to Joliet Catholic Academy.

Incoming freshmen, transfer students and their parents and family are invited to attend a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in the Student Activity Center at JCA. A mandatory freshmen parent meeting will immediately follow the mass. A cookout will follow the short meeting. Students may walk their schedules, locate their locker, and/or stop by the Spirit Shop after the events.


All freshman and transfer students should report to their homerooms by 7:50 a.m. Please enter through JCA’s Main Entrance facing Larkin Avenue. The Orientation Program will begin at 8:00 a.m. All students should bring their class schedule, a pen, folder with pockets, and a spiral. On orientation day, all students should be dressed in their JCA regulation uniform. Dismissal is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. following a complimentary pizza lunch. Parents should park in the lot parallel to Ingalls Avenue rather than in front of the school.


Friday, August 19th classes will be held from 7:50 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Monday, August 22nd will be the first full day of classes from 7:50 a.m. to 2:40 p.m.


State of Illinois law requires a student to submit a certified birth certificate (this cannot be a photocopy). The State of Illinois requires an up-to-date Health Form and Record of Immunizations to be on file before a student can attend classes. The health form qualifies athletes who elect to participate in any sport during their freshman year. The birth certificate and health form must be on file prior to the first day of starting high school. Those participating in fall sports must have a health form on file by July 1st. Separate health forms ARE NOT required.


Freshman and transfer students are required to drop off their laptop computer and charger on Monday, July 25th between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. or between 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the main office. Students who PURCHASED A NEW LAPTOP OR ARE BYOD are required to drop off their laptop computer and charger on this date during the scheduled times as well. Freshmen and transfer students will receive their computer back at Freshmen & Transfer Computer Training. All other students will receive their computer back the first full day of school. All freshmen and transfer students are required to sign up for a computer training summer class. Students will be led through logging in and accessing important apps so that they feel confident starting the school year with their device. Please sign your incoming freshman or transfer student up for one workshop timeslot. Workshops are offered on Wednesday, August 10th and Thursday, August 11th at 8:00 a.m., 9:30 a.m., and 11:00 a.m. Workshops will be limited to 28 students, so please sign up early to get your preferred slot. The data on the computer-generated Student Profile form will be mailed to parents. Parents and students are required to sign and date the form. By signing the Student Profile form, you accept the policies of Joliet Catholic Academy as outlined in the Parent-Student Handbook.


As stated in the information with your schedule, after 2:40 p.m. on Thursday August 25th, any schedule change must result in a dropped course which would result in either a “WP” or “WF” grade on the student transcript. Students will not be able to begin a new course after the tenth day of the semester.


Parents and students will receive detailed information regarding PlusPortals, an online application that provides access to student class pages, grades, and progress reports along with teacher contact information via e-mail. To receive the information and secure a PlusPortals account, you must have a valid individual e-mail address on file at the school.


Students are responsible to have their summer assignment(s) completed by the first day of school. Summer assignments are available on the school’s website under the Students tab at:


To better serve our school community in these times, the Spirit Shop will be open the following dates and times so families can purchase required uniform shirts, gym shirts, chemistry goggles, and JCA locks for the school year.

  • Monday August 8th – 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, August 9th – 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. 
  • Wednesday, August 10th – 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. 
  • Thursday, August 11th  10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.


The JCA required textbook list can be found on the school’s website under the Parents tab at: Please visit the online bookstore at to purchase textbooks (textbooks are NOT available for purchase in the Spirit Shop). If you chose to purchase textbooks from another source other than MBS Direct, it is your responsibility to ensure you purchase the correct edition, textbook, workbook, etc.

Please note, health documents have REQUIRED parent portions that must be completed, signed, and dated by a parent/legal guardian to be compliant.

All seniors are required to have received an immunization containing MENINGOCOCCAL CONJUGATE VACCINE (MCV4).

All freshmen are required to submit a completed State of Illinois Proof of School Dental Examination Form and a completed State of Illinois Certificate of Child Health Examination form. The required Certificate of Child Health Exam is valid for 395 days and fulfills the sports physical requirement for incoming freshman only. HOWEVER, ALL FRESHMEN WHO WILL BE INVOLVED IN A FALL SPORT MUST HAVE THE CERTIFICATE OF CHILD HEALTH EXAM COMPLETED AND ON FILE IN THE SCHOOL HEALTH OFFICE BY JULY 1.

Student parking permits will be sold starting Wednesday, August 10th in the Dean’s Office. Registration for seniors is from 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. and underclassman registration is
from 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. A student may register for one other student if they have a photocopy of that student’s valid license. A senior may not register for an underclassman.

Students may purchase a parking space in the Dean’s Office or online,, throughout the school year providing parking spaces are available. When registering, drivers and/or their parents, must:

• Show the student’s current, valid driver’s license, or a photocopy of the license.
• Pay the $200 registration fee by cash or check.
• Register the make, model, and license plate number of the car you will be driving.
