September Students of the Month

Joliet Catholic Academy president/principal Dr. Jeffrey Budz is pleased to announce the September Students of the Month: Jake Bumstead (Kiwanis Club), Makenzie Kaput (Rotary Club), and Claire Dow (Lions Club). JCA is proud of the success these students have exhibited both in the classroom and out in the community.

Jake Bumstead

 

Jake Bumstead, son of Kevin and Deborah Bumstead, currently has a 4.54 GPA in JCA Honors and AP classes. Bumstead is a member of National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, National English Honor Society, secretary of the JCA Student Council Senior Executive Board, and founder/president of the JCA Ping Pong club. He is also a three-year member and team captain of the JCA varsity basketball team. Bumstead plans on attending a four-year university to major in education.

Makenzie Kaput

Makenzie Kaput, daughter of Greggory and Stephanie Kaput, currently has a 4.90 GPA in JCA Honors and AP classes. Kaput is a member of National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, JCA Student Council, and JCA Student Ambassadors. She is also part of the JCA Victory View (school newspaper staff). Kaput is the drum major in the JCA Band, and also led the JCA girls soccer team to a 4th place IHSA State Finals finish in the spring of 2019, when she was named the ESCC Conference Defensive Player of the Year. She was also named to Chicagoland Soccer’s All-State Team. Kaput participates in the Galaxy Soccer Club during her high school off-seasons. She plans to attend the University of Wisconsin-Parkside to major in education. In her spare time she also coaches in the little kids’ soccer program at Just for Kicks Soccer Complex.

Claire Dow

 Claire Dow, daughter of Hon. Judges Robert and Elizabeth Dow, currently has a 5.09 GPA in JCA Honors and AP classes. Dow is a member of National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, vice president of JCA Student Council, founder of the Environmental Club, Hillzone (cheering section) leader, and a member of Spanish Club, Habitat for Humanity Club, Math Club, and Scholastic Bowl. Dow is also a captain of the JCA varsity volleyball team and member of the JCA varsity basketball team. She helped lead the Angels volleyball program to a third place finish in the 2018 IHSA State Finals. In her spare time she volunteers at Daybreak Shelter. Dow plans on majoring in history with a minor in global affairs and peace studies. She is currently undecided on a college of choice.
